This was a 3 part series workshop in which I invited people to reconnect to the significance of food in their lives by coming together to share stories through the making of bags.
The bags were created through textile manipulation; by un-doing, and then re-binding, existing food bags (rice bags, coffee bags, onion bags, lime bags, etc.) into new re-contextualized bags. Participants were encouraged to manipulate the bags using techniques from their own lives, heritages and cultures, turning them into carriers of stories (as well as memories, traditions and dreams) of both the bags’ histories and the histories of the ones who were entwining them together.
*During this series participants were able to un-make bags and start exploring small samples of new bags. In an upcoming workshop we will be finishing the re-made bags.

This workshop invited people to re-imagine how they relate to food through the lens of gardening tools. Participants were invited to brainstorm what tools they would want or what tools could look like if gardening spaces and agricultural systems were seen as places to relate, exchange and reciprocate rather than spaces to control. The tools will be built in a following workshop.
Thanks to a partnership with Greenpeace Brasil, the workshop was accompanied by a movie screening of the documentary Antes do Prato - which showcases different agro-ecological initiatives in Brasil.
