The photos are of my relatives when they had just immigrated to Brasil and were forced to work in coffee farms before they could become free immigrants. Sashiko is a traditional Japanese stitching which my grandma learned from her grandma and in turn taught me.
The series I Come From Red Orange Dirt was part of the Reclaim Exhibition by the Vancouver Ceramics Studio in September 2025. For this exhibition I binded all the stitched photos together in a booklet, which was my first experimentation with rice glue and traditional Japanese book binding.
